Welcome to my blog about my adventures and experiences in the UK and further afield predominantly by bike or on foot.

I’m a graduate in Environmental Science working in the conservation industry and I try and fill any free time I can find with outdoor activities, though I must confess that I seem to spend more time fixing and researching bikes than riding them! I am a cyclist, a runner, a sailor, a hillwalker and generally someone who is happiest outside.

These days I a most definitely a cyclist, I feel like spending 4 months living on a bike qualifies me as a cyclist. However only a few years back I would have never called myself a cyclist. Sure I cycled regularly, I cycled to uni, to meet friends in the pub, to go shopping, to get to running races and to go sailing but I wasn’t a cyclist. To me cycling was merely a means of transport, I used a bike to get places and for nothing more. Now I am a cyclist, I cycle for the sheer joy of cycling as well as the exploration and adventure you can have whilst whizzing about the countryside on 2 wheels. I cycle on road and I cycle off road, I do short rides and I do long cycle tours lasting multiple months, I cycle as fast as I can with my lungs bursting and I cycle slowly to enjoy the view and catch up with friends and I still cycle as a means of transport. To me as a cyclist this is the joy of cycling, it can be whatever you want it to be and often more.

I’m also a runner, I spend a lot of time running, be it in the fells and mountains or on the road I’m always happier after a good run. I run fast and I often run slowly, in fact when I’m fell running I’m quite often actually walking! I used to be a road runner who dabbled in cross country, I ran fast and hard as often as possible and I could reel off my personal best times for a whole host of distances from the mile to a marathon. Nowadays I live in the Brecon Beacons National Park and instead of running for the sake of it or for fitness I run to admire the views, to feel the wind (and often rain) on my face and to watch the sunrise from the top of a mountain. I am however a naturally competitive person and therefore I still race, indeed I recently completed my first “fell race” and it’s the most fun I’ve ever had at a running race! (expect a full write up soon)

This blog will serve as a record for my adventures and a place for the ramblings that usually only exist in my head.
